Harald Haas received his Ph. D. degree from the University of Edinburgh in 2001. His research interests are in the area of wireless communications. In 1995, Dr. Haas spent six months in Mumbai, India, as a Heinz-Nixdorf Scholar before joining Siemens AG Semiconductor Division as a system engineer for a GSM chipset. From 1999 to 2001 he was a Research Associate at Edinburgh University. As part of his work he was a consultant to Nokia Networks OY, Finland, in the area of UMTS. Before joining the Jacobs University, Dr. Haas was project manager at Siemens AG (Information and Communication Mobile / Networks - ICM N) leading an international research project on radio concepts for future cellular systems. Dr. Haas received a best paper award at the International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC) in 1999 and holds several patents in the area of wireless communications. In 2001, he was awarded the Honorary Fellowship of Edinburgh University.
